Our Classic Rug Wool yarn is available in nearly 100 colors of 100% New Zealand Rug Wool. The broad color palette offers solid and heathered colors, and is an enduring favorite among rug weavers. An excellent yarn for rugs, tapestries, hooked, knitted or crocheted projects. Halcyon Yarn Rug Wool is easy to hand-dye with natural dyes as well as low-impact synthetic dyes like Wash Fast Acid or Country Classic for more subtle coloration. Since our rug wool is 100% wool, it will felt, so it's excellent for knitted or crocheted rugs or home goods made loosely and then felted for an extra sturdy finish.
Our Classic Rug Wool comes in hefty 100 gram hanks or 55" (approx.) strands perfect for accents.
Our Classic 3-ply Rug Wool works beautifully in designs by Seal Harbor, Amy Oxford, Claire Murray, and more.
Weavers:
Recommended Warps: 100% Linen Soft Finish Warp or Cotton Seine Twine
Recommended Setts:
Weft Faced Plain Weave: Use the 2, 3, or 4 ply warps doubled or tripled at 4 epi. Use the 5 ply single at 4 epi (5 epi with beater weights). Twill: Use the 2, 3, or 4 ply warps doubled at 5 - 6 epi. Use the 5 ply linen doubled at 4 epi or single at 5 epi.
Suggested Weft Amounts: For plain weave, allow 1 - 1.5 skeins per square foot. Allow 1.5 - 2 skeins per square foot for twill and bound weave. These weft allowances are adequate for a tight, weft-faced weave.
Rug Punchers & Rug Hookers: Allow approximately 2 skeins per square foot. Just need a small amount of yarn for detail? We offer individual Rug Wool Strands! Each wool strand is approximately 55 inches and 9 strands is equal to about 1 oz. Use a Coarse hook, 8mm to 9mm.
Knit & Crochet: Knit at 1.5 - 3 sts = 1" on size 9 - 13 knitting needles. Crocheters, allow up to 2 skeins per square foot using 1 - 3 strands together and a size O or P crochet hook.
